We were staying across the road at the Volunteer Gap Inn and this is just a hop, skip and a jump over. It's at Mile Post 193.5 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The place is actually a few things. It's a gas station/convenience store with a 60's style sandwich bar in it. There's also a full restaurant in another building to the side of it where we ate. We didn't get to go into the convenience store as they were short staffed and had everyone working in the restaurant. There's also a nice play area in the back for kids and a stage for outdoor music. They seem to have two Facebook pages. One for the restaurant and one for the convenience store. Anyway, we were there for dinner and ate at the restaurant. It was a small menu that our innkeeper said changes seasonally. There were only a few entrees, salads and a number of sandwiches on it. We decided to split the rib eye steak dinner because I think the steak was 10 or 12 ounces. I'm glad we did because with a side salad and baked potato each, it was plenty! The salad was a perfect size to go with dinner and there was a choice of several house made dressings. I had the blue cheese, which was delicious. The potato was perfectly cooked. We asked for sour cream and butter for the potato and each came in in a tiny metal sauce cup and the butter was already melted! Dinner also comes with a garlic loaf, which is like a nice sub roll with a garlicy topping, which was tasty, but a tad too salty for me. The steak was perfectly cooked and had that wonderful outdoor BBQ char flavor. They don't have any desserts on the menu, but our waitress offered ice cream from the sandwich bar in the convenience store, which we had with chocolate topping. It was very tasty, but I'd love it if they added some desserts too. Throughout our time there was a singing duo called "Reminiscing with Robbie & Betty" who had a keyboard and played songs from the 50"s and 60's. One of the diners even got up and sang with them;. All and all, a great experience and we hope to be back soon!

Tourist trap. If you're hard up for food or gas this place is visible from the parkway. There is a reason locals don't go here. A few miles south at intersection of BRP and Hwy 52 are several eating choices and reasonably priced gas. Good motorcycle roads all around, head down the hill to ride the valley or across the BRP to wander the hills.
